Jamilah Frazier

From the Desk of F. Kirby Bond, CDMHC Chief of Staff

It is with pleasure that I nominate Ms. Jamilah Frazier as “Outstanding Employee of the Year” for the Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center. Ms. Frazier has been a member of this MHC since November 02, 2000 and has distinguished herself as an outstanding employee.

She initially began her career providing administrative support to the Center’s Intake/Mobile Crisis Division. In addition to traditional administrative services, she was often the first person to have contact with a potential client or family member coming in or calling the MHC for services or information. In this role, she quickly developed a reputation for customer-friendly service while providing competent, reliable, and stable administrative support in the often chaotic environment of this clinical program, which responds to unscheduled mobile outreach requests and walk-ins as well as scheduled intakes/assessments.

Next Ms. Frazier was assigned to the MHC’s Billing/Finance Department where she immediately impressed her managers with her ability to not only learn the complex detailed processes of billing and financial management but to understand the “big picture” that many persons with years more experience often fail to grasp. Also, her previous experience with clients in crisis has proved to be a valuable asset when advocating for clients and families with problems regarding their bills and other issues.

As a result of her strong performance and keen understanding of MHC operations and financial issues Ms. Frazier was promoted to supervisor. In this role, she has truly excelled. As a supervisor she has initiated reevaluating the operational processes related to billing and has championed changes that have increased Center revenue and enhanced efficiency. She has stressed the importance of maintaining a customer (client) friendly environment and clinicians often contact her because of her expertise and responsiveness. She has proved herself to be an effective problem-solver and is often praised for her communication skills.

Ms. Frazier is client-centered and mission focused, and is well-respected by subordinates, peers, and supervisors, as well as the senior management of the Mental Health Center. She is reliable, dependable, and always willing to go “above and beyond” what is required. She is enthusiastic and motivated, and it is not unusual to see her coming in early or staying late even though she has a family and is taking college courses to enhance her knowledge and skills. I believe any mental health center would be fortunate to have Ms. Frazier on its staff as she embodies the qualities and attributes of a truly outstanding employee.
